The story of an innovation: 43 years of scientific research

The genetic improvement of vanilla is not the result of chance. The Planifolia-Tahitensis hybrid results from a 43-years scientific research program, initiated by the French government in 1952 via theIRAT (Tropical Agronomic Research Institute) and continued by the FOFIFA in Madagascar

👨‍🔬 Key figures of the project :

. 1952 : Theodose launches the first experiments in interspecific crossing.

. 1981 : Nany Fleuron, renowned Researcher Teacher and former director of FOFIFA, takes over the research, refines and finalizes the selection.

. 1995 : The culmination of the program allows us to obtain the ideal hybrid, combining the robustness and aromatic richness of Planifolia with the floral delicacy of Tahitensis.

Noteworthy fact: Nany Fleuron is today the scientific mentor of La Villa Michaëlla, ensuring continuity in expertise and innovation.

Mr Fleuron is a world-renowned authority on vanilla. And we extend a special thanks to him for all the support he has provided in making this project possible.
